The Process

From your story to their heart...

Welcome to the process! Here you will learn all about the production process we use.

At Your Song Day, there are several important, behind-the-scenes, major stages of production which begin immediately after you complete your purchase:

We've got a few:

  • Pre Production

  • Lyrics and Tune Writing

  • Project Scheduling

  • Recording session

  • Mixing and engineering and mastering

  • Post production and delivery

There's lots to do once you purchase, but that's on us, and we thrive on it.

You'll  have only one thing to do after purchase:

Lyrics Approval Day!

The Process

1. Pre-Production

Our artist teams meet and brainstorm on your story, your chosen vibe, your tempo/beat  preferences, and your three included gotta-have elements for initial musical to begin to gather lyrical inspiration, sketches and of course admin project set up. Oh yeah, and there's coffee... seriously good coffee.

2. Write Lyrics

At Your Song Day it's first things first... Many artists prefer to put lyrics to music, however your story is most important so we must adapt and start here, with your narrative.

This part is both fun and hard work.  Our lyricists don't compose, and vice versa though both skills are fulfilling yet often solitary endeavors.

Check out these guys, Rogers and Hart.. who truly paved the way for this collaborative process in jazz music. Theirs was a writing model we embrace.

3. Composition begins...

Our composers begin to get a rough harmonic structure together while the lyricists are writing. They are now in close contact wishing to align their efforts in anticipation of your lyrics approval: that's the next step.....

4. Lyrics Approval Day

On Lyrics Approval Day you will receive the lyrics for you to review. Here you'll have the opportunity to "tweak" a few words , or you can cut out a few, or even maybe add some of your own words into the final lyrics. Most people do leave it up to our lyricists, but you do have this option.  Be aware it adds time to final production delivery, but more importantly we want you and the recipient to be super happy with the results.

Once we have the green light from you, we are on our way to finishing the music writing and will soon be headed for the studio.

This is real team work!

5. Final Draft Composition, Recording, Post Production

Once you've approved the lyrics, we craft them into the tune using a bespoke combination of rhythm and melody.  Only when the lyricist and composer feel they've captured the right emotions conveying the essence of your musical story, they will make the final creative decisions, based on a deep understanding of composition and years of experience. We will always make sure the project feels good.

Then its time to record your song and we take it seriously. Our results sound professional and will fit right in with the repertoire you are familiar with, and will sound like a real jazz record.
